Earth on Earth Day
Eumetsat

There may be no Earth Day vantage more stunning than this; Eumetsat's Meteosat-10 weather satellite captured this photo of Earth earlier this morning.

Earth Day was first observed by peace activist John McConnell and United States Senator Gaylord Nelson in 1970. What started as an educational movement in schools and universities has since grown to be celebrated in almost 200 countries. The nonprofit Earth Day Network now coordinates the program across the globe. The Earth Day movement is closely connected with efforts to curb climate change, provide clean drinking water and promote animal conservation.
