Webcam Catches Exact Moment of Japan Volcano Eruption

A webcam operated by the Japan Meteorological Agency has captured footage of this morning's unexpected eruption of Mount Shindake on the small island of Kuchinoerabu-jima:

The violent eruption sent a 30,000 foot ash cloud hurtling into the sky. Thanks to the volcano's remote location, the eruption's impact has been very limited: only one minor injury has been reported. Citing the high likelihood of further eruptions, Japanese officials are evacuating the island's residents.

The volcano last erupted in August of 2014; prior to that, it had been dormant for 34 years.
