The internet is abuzz after two major tech companies disclosed timelines for self-driving vehicle technology.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced during a press call that version 7.0 of the automaker's firmware, due out in three months, would include the beginning stages of an autopilot system.

"We're pretty excited about the progress we're making there. The main test route that we're evaluating is the San Francisco to Seattle route, and we're now almost able to travel all the way from San Francisco to Seattle without the driver touching any controls at all," he remarked.

Furthermore, Google Director of Self-Driving Cars Chris Urmson committed in a TED talk to developing autopilot artificial intelligence technology before his 11-year-old son takes his driving test.

"If we are really going to make changes to our cities, get rid of parking lots, we need self-drive cars," he declared.
