Pig-footed bandicoot
John Gould

Formerly found throughout Australia, the pig-footed bandicoot was last seen at the turn of the twentieth century. The largely herbivorous species was known to have two functional toes on its front feet, much like a pig.

Although it was always somewhat rare, the remainig population experienced a considerable decline after Europeans arrived on the Australian continent. It is believed that ecological changes caused by the introduction of European cattle spurred the species' extinction.
