Curious Wild Orca Approaches Paddleboarder

Talk about a once-in-a-lifetime encounter! Luke Reilly was paddleboarding a mere 600 feet from the New Zealand shore when a curious killer whale approached his paddleboard. In an interview with 3 News, Reilly said that the inquisitive orca eyed him for a full five minutes, eventually taking an innocent nibble at his paddleboard before slipping back into the depths of the ocean. Luckily for us, Reilly captured a truly remarkable 30-second clip of the beautiful encounter.

Despite their reputation as killer whales, wild orcas pose very little threat to humans; there are no recorded fatal altercations between a human and an orca in the wild.
