Thanks to a well-placed cry for help on social media and the kindness of strangers, a adorable grinning donkey is now safe from rising floodwaters.

On Sunday morning, representatives from County Kerry, Ireland-based Animal Heaven Animal Rescue (AHAR) posted a plea for "a boat and men to help" on their Facebook page after receiving word that a donkey was stranded in rising floodwaters.

The right people got word of the organization's post -- within minutes, Mike Fleming, a coach from the local Killorglin Rowing Club was en route to the scene with a small boat. With the help of a life preserver, the team successfully ushered the donkey to safety:

We have him pray we get him to the shore line

Back on the shoreline, the lucky donkey showed off his beaming smile in a photo that has since gone viral on social media.

In a show of gratitude, AHAR named the donkey Mike after his rescuer. Mike is now recovering from his ordeal at an AHAR facility.

Mike would like to say hello to all his fans and say thank you very much for all your lovely comments wishing him well....

"He is now dried with towels, eating a hot mash, all cozy and warm and our vet has seen him and started him on antibiotics to prevent pneumonia. He has a small bit of fluid in one lung but our vet said he will recover. All he needs is loads of TLC," the organization shared in a Facebook update earlier this morning.
