The critical phase in the Battle of Chancellorsville occurred on May 2, 1863, when Gen. Stonewall Jackson led 26,000 Confederates on a daring march around the right wing of Gen. Joseph Hooker's army. With two hours of daylight remaining, Jackson then launched a devastating attack on the enemy's exposed flank. That sent the Federals reeling back over two miles.
