Flight 5A.1: Italy's Leonardo

Launch date: March 8, 2001
Launch vehicle: Shuttle Discovery (Shuttle Mission STS-102)
Launch complex: Kennedy Space Center

Transferring supplies finally gets easier, with Leonardo, the Italian-built reusable cargo module. Shuttle astronauts merely attach Leonardo to the station. The station crew can then unpack, transfer and stow supplies, equipment racks and lab equipment. The second live-aboard station crew arrives, Yuri Usachev, James Voss and Susan Helms, to replace the station’s first resident crew.
