Flight 6A: Canada's "Arm"

Launch date: April 19, 2001
Launch vehicle: Shuttle Endeavour (Shuttle Mission STS-100)
Launch complex: Kennedy Space Center

The long-awaited Canadian-built Remote Manipulator System arrives, the high-tech, multi-joined robot arm with muscle. Astronauts attach it to the outside of the station, where it will be used for assembly and maintenance tasks. Spacewalkers also attach a UHF antenna. Meanwhile, the station crew unloads six system racks and two storage racks for the lab from Leonardo, the Italian reusable cargo module. Up to now, you have to live aboard or visit Russia to watch the station crew on TV. After this mission, you can stay in the U.S. and tune in to NASA for the space-based version of "The Truman Show."
