Still sporting a pirate’s badge of skull and crossbones on her bow, the Time Bandit and her tough but tight-knit crew remain a force to be reckoned with on the Bering Sea.
The boat is co-captained by Johnathan and Andy Hillstrand. John helms the Time Bandit for King season, while Andy takes Opies.
After sustaining major ice damage to the hull during the 2012 Opilio season — not to mention 21 years of wear and tear — the boat underwent a million-dollar overhaul in 2013, but that doesn’t mean things ran smoothly.
The Hillstrand Brothers know how to balance the grinding tedium of crabbing with pranks and good times, but with a mound of boat debt on their plates, the fun times are now few and far between.
The Hillstrands are strong believers in loyalty and legacy, and are looking to instill that style of fishing into their newly renovated crew.
