Simulating survivors of a high mountain avalanche, Cody and Dave battle through waist-deep snow to get to lower elevations and possible rescue.

With night coming fast, the pair get to work building a snow cave, the quickest way to find warmth in the midst of winter.

Cody (wearing the only pre-supplied pair of snowshoes) and Dave carefully approach a frozen waterfall that offers a faster route down the mountain.

Cody sets out to gather firewood, no easy feat when most of the dried wood is buried under a few feet of snow.

Once they have their first shelter and fire, Dave takes some time to make himself a pair of essential snowshoes that will let him keep up with Cody on cross country hikes.

While scouting, Cody stumbles on a picked-over elk carcass buried in the snow. The carcass appears to have been feasted on by canines, but Cody digs out the tongue that has been hermetically sealed within the frozen head.

Dave gets to work fashioning an aerial signal pattern on the wide open expanse of a frozen lake. Finding areas that are free of trees and cover are essential for successful high altitude visibility.

Cody dries out his trusty socks while the survival duo enjoy the primal warmth of fire in their home away from home.
