Recovering from a college football head injury that ended his playing career, Rick took up music, learning to play an upright bass. He formed a band called the .357 Stringband, releasing three albums in the last seven years. The band has toured relentlessly around the world and it was during a stop at the Southeast Alaskan State Fair where Rick met Parker Schnabel. With Gold Rush Rick’s favorite TV show, he expressed an interest in working with Parker. Nine months later Parker made the call.
Rick had no mining experience before joining Parker’s crew in Season Three, but he had learned about heavy machines from his early work at his family’s commercial construction company. Rick quickly proved himself a capable excavator, dozer, loader and rock truck operator.
Rick loves to continually seek out adventure and new experiences. In his free time he loves motorcycles, building his tattoo collection and hitting the gym.
Last season, when their fellow miners left for home, Rick stayed on with Parker and fought the cold Yukon winter, taking their total from a respectable 836 oz to an incredible 1029 oz. In gratitude Parker gave Rick a portion of the gold, which Rick has had smelted into a ring.
