Decoding the MythBusters - N

The chemical reaction between an acid and a base that forms water as a byproduct. Also called a water-forming reaction.

New Mexico Tech

Officially, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology. Tory, Kari and Grant dub the school their "rocket Mecca" because it has equipment capable of propelling an object more than 500 miles (804 kilometers) per hour -- that's faster than a jet plane.

A measurement of force, as in "a boxer can pack a punch of 4,000 Newtowns." The unit is based on the force that causes an acceleration of 1 meter per second squared.

Newton's Law of Gravity

The physical law that any two masses exert a gravitational force on each other. The magnitude of that force is proportional to the product of the gravitational masses of the objects and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.

Newton's Laws of Physics

Another name for the three laws of motion that describe the fundamental behavior of mass in the universe.

Newton's Laws of Motion

The three laws of motion: 1) Every object at rest tends to stay at rest unless acted upon by an external force. 2) Force is equal to the product of mass and acceleration. 3) For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

A colorless, odorless inert gas. Nitrogen comprises about 78 percent of the Earth's atmosphere.

Nitrogen cannon

First debuted on the MythBusters Superhero Special, Tory and the gang bring it back in season six, during the "Knock Your Socks Off" experiment. The high-powered cannon-like device operates by gas expanding in a confined space. Since liquid nitrogen has an extremely low boiling point, it vaporizes and expands easily, which provides the cannon's propellant power.
