From a very young age, the outdoors was where you could find Jake. Despite growing up in Baltimore City, hiking, camping, and fishing were how most weekends were spent. In middle school, one of his classes was on shelter building, making a great foundation for a future of primitive camping. Jake's love of the outdoors greatly influenced his career choice. For 16 years Jake has trained horses professionally. Being able to be out in nature every day, working with such amazing animals, is something that he never takes for granted.

Once a year Jake tried to go on an adventure, both to keep life interesting, but also to push himself outside of his comfort zone. Some of his adventures include bicycling by himself from St. Augustine, FL to Santa Monica, CA, he spent weeks in Kenya in a Masai village, backpacking around the Canadian Rockies, and he spent a month living off the land in the interior of Alaska.

Jake is not one to shy away from an adrenaline rush. He's competed in bull riding, steer wrestling, and full contact jousting. He's been shark diving, swimming with crocodiles, caving, rappelling, and cliff diving among other activities.

When not working horses, Jake enjoys playing the guitar, long walks on the beach, and wildlife photography.

Between working around a farm and the gym several times a week, Jake tends to keep in good physical condition. Jake says his mental strength is a result of coming out of the closet in a small town in Western Colorado after a lifetime of growing up in a very religious environment. He says if you can do that, you can do anything.

Aside from a shelter-building course at a young age, Jake has also completed a survival course as well as a navigation class. During his time in Alaska, hunting and foraging for food, fire building, and getting water were all part of daily chores. Spending a month in Alaska's interior as winter set in was both a huge physical and mental challenge for Jake, but he says it was the adventure of a lifetime, and something he would do again in a heartbeat.

After successfully completing his 21 days in the Amazon, Jake has felt superhuman, and ready to take on the world. He is once again ready to strip down to his birthday suit and take on 40 days. "You're welcome world."
