HOMETOWN: Seattle, WA
JOB: Competitive Strongman
STRENGTHS: Power lifting & making primitive tools
Four years ago Brandon was a gangly 6'5" and weighed only 165 lbs. He felt insecure about his body, and as he says, "I looked like Ichabod Crane." Then one day he saw pictures of bulky weight lifters from the 70s - he resolved to be massive just like them.
Today he weighs a hulking 275 pounds, and competes as a strongman. In fact, he can deadlift 650 lbs. He hoists trees, cars, boulders and women over his head. Brandon is known as one of the best power lifters in the Pacific Northwest, where he coaches weight lifting and strength training.
Brandon wants to show people that strongmen are not just lumbering oafs. When he's not in the gym, he heads to the mountains, where he practices primitive survival skills. The outdoors is his "happy place," and he spends 2-3 times a month on a self-induced survival challenge. He likes to see how far he can push himself.
Brandon continues to grow his survival knowledge by researching 18th century mountain men. He has an obsession with historical authenticity, and studies history by living it in survival situations.
