Lieutenant Thomas Potter
Lt. Thomas Potter started in law enforcement as a street cop, and worked his way up to become Commander of Investigations at the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office. Potter runs his unit with a hands-on, no-nonsense management style. As a former member of SWAT, he’s tactically minded and skilled at strategizing ways to utilize his team's strengths.
Potter took a hiatus from law enforcement to work as a contractor for Blackwater after Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, and to fight the war on terror in Afghanistan. He came back to the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office in 2010, and finds one of the most rewarding aspects of his job to be bringing closure to victim’s families.
Married with three kids, Potter jokes that outside of the office he spends most of his time cutting grass and, as he says, taking orders from his wife. He also likes to retreat to his trailer on Lake Gaston where he finds peace sitting by the fire, sipping bourbon, and being out of cell phone reception.
