12 Year Old Gets Global Birthday Wishes, Trends #1 on Twitter

By: Discovery

During these times of uncertainty, a feel-good story about strangers around the world gathering on Twitter to wish one boy ‘Happy Birthday’ is exactly what we need right now.

April 11, 2020

On Saturday, @JodySmithNFL tweeted a photo of his son Brandon, asking the Twitterverse to wish him a “Happy 12th Brithday” and reply where they are living in the world. The tweet mentioned that Brandon loves geography and for every RT or reply, he would mark it on his hand drawn map.

Like many children around the world, Brandon isn’t able to celebrate his birthday with friends and family due to COVID-19 and protective social distancing measures. The next thing that happened was truly special.

The world graciously obliged this father’s request. People from all over the world from cities like Paris, Rome, Jaipur, Cape Town, Nairobi, Mexico City, St. Louis, Los Angeles, and more sent their tweets—making Brandon the #1 trending topic on Twitter in the U.S.

Even during dark days, strangers can come together to help make each other’s lives just a little bit brighter.

Happy 12th Birthday, Brandon!
