If you are a pet owner, you know how much you love and celebrate your furry friends every day. But today, National Pet Day, we celebrate all the ways they’ve made staying home a little less lonely.

So why do people own pets? According to the CDC, there are many physical and mental benefits to having a pet, including better immune system, improved heart health, and higher energy due to more opportunities for outdoor activities and socialization. Caring for a pet can also bring joy and help boost your mood by easing feelings of loneliness and enhancing sense of self-worth and fulfillment. The bond formed between people and their pets can bring joy and happiness to pet owners. During uncertain times, like right now, pets are happier than ever as we spend a lot more time at home. Don’t they make your stay-at-home days so much better?

There are many pets waiting to be fostered or adopted in shelters every day. While the coronavirus pandemic has prompted closures of many businesses, animal shelters and humane societies have been trying to find new homes for as many pets as possible before closure. Thanks to sheltering-in-place orders across the country, a recent pet-adoption boom is the feel-good pandemic story we all need right now.
