Shawn starts the season on a sour note when he misses the first day of mining while Zeke and Scott Meisterheim get used to their new dredges and have problems with inexperienced crew members.
Zeke's deckhand John fights for his life after swimming in near-freezing water while Shawn Pomrenke discovers the Christine Rose has been grounded due to its proximity to a migration spot for salmon. On the Wild Ranger, Vernon deals with a with an extremely unstable diver and Scott takes the Anchor Management out to sea during a summer storm.
Zeke is determined to prove he did not jump another miner's claim or steal their gold and Steve Riedel calls the police after feeling threatened by Scott loitering near his camp. Meanwhile, the Christine Rose is still grounded so Shawn and Steve resort to more primitive methods of finding gold.
Scott is paid a visit by his investors who watch him dredge from the shore and then demand a return on their money. In town, Zeke and Emily decide to share an apartment in an effort to conserve resources after their dredge is grounded by local authorities.
The Christine Rose risks capsizing when she is caught out to sea in dangerous conditions and Vernon loses his cool after his best diver stays on land to rest and he is stuck with Steve Riedel to bring in the gold.
Shawn tells dad Steve that he is going to jail for ten days and will not be able to mine while Scott Meisterheim goes on an alcohol binge after realizing he is woefully short on gold.
Scott makes a shocking announcement to his crew that will impact the rest of their season. Meanwhile, Emily blows off work after a late night out leaving Zeke short on gas for the dredge and with only a two man crew to mine.
Vern hires Scott's former Anchor Management crew to work his second dredge the Beast after his own crew goes missing. On the Edge, Zeke and Emily jokingly bicker about their relationship until their conversation explodes into a full-on argument.
Shawn starts his 10-day prison sentence leaving Steve and deckhand Cody to save the mining season while Steve Riedel feels the heat when Vern threatens termination if he doesn't quickly improve.
Expert diver Daryl Galipeau struggles to reach the surface after the Wild Ranger's air compressor runs out of gas. Later that night, a tragic death shakes the Nome community to its core.
Zeke and Emily mourn their childhood friend's tragic death and Scott returns to Nome after rehab to discover the crew now works for his nemesis Vernon. On the Christine Rose, Shawn and Cody race to save the barge from sinking after discovering a large opening in the hull.
The miners have one last shot to get on the gold as the harbor begins to freeze while Zeke is overcome with guilt about his friend's death. Meanwhile, the Wild Ranger's new diver helps Vern close in on his goal.
